Automated Folder Structures for PC

Automated Folder Structures for PCjdStructure for the PC is here! The application watches your designated BIN folder for specific file extensions to automatically sort them accordingly into their proper directories.

. as zip or

. as exe.

Unlike OS X, Windows systems don’t provide a scripting language capable of file access and strong enough to mime Apple’s feature of custom Folder Actions. That is exactly why we went a step further and wrote an entire application, intended to be running as a background process in the systray.

The tool has been tested under Windows 2000, XP and 7. If you encounter any problems please don’t hesitate to mail us at bugfix@creatogether.com to describe us the issue. In any case of problems try to delete config.dat and reopen the app.

Installing the app is fairly easy. Create your folder structure as needed (but in any case make sure you create a folder to use at bin), and run the setup file jdStructure_setup.exe

The application allows you to add, edit and delete any folders or applied rules. Add folders to the left and assign rules to them on the right. Editing structures or folder paths is done by double-click. For the geeks amongst us: you can open up the file config.dat with any text editing software and add structures/folders there if the non-terminal interface is starting to make you feel uncomfortable.

How do I specify the path to the subfolder of a subfolder?

Use either a slash (/) or backslash (\) as delimiter of your path, e.g. footage/audio being the folder audio inside the folder footage.

How do I link structures to folders?

Once you select an added folder from the left jdStructure will select all the structures assigned to that folder. Change the selection to assign another structure.

Why can’t I assign a structure to my root drive, C:\ ?

Because it’s your root. jdStructure is always looking for a parent folder to check for files, but a drive itself doesn’t have a parent folder.

I minimized the application, now it’s fucking gone!

No worries, jdStructure is still running. When minimizing, jdStructure frees the taskbar and places itself inside your systray, next to the system clock. Double-click this icon to bring it back into sight.

I don’t want jdStructure to autostart hidden

To start along with Windows jdStructure generates a shortcut to itself inside the autorun folder of your Start Menu. Right-click on the file and remove the parameter /min in the destination field so jdStructure starts maximized.

The awesome sound playing every time new files are sorted annoys my step-sister’s dog, what can I do?

There is a sound file in the jdStructure install folder called sorted.wav – either delete it or exchange it by the sound of opening a box of dog-food.

I’d like to assign the same structure to multiple folders.

No Problem. Once you defined a structure, it remains available in the structures list.

Do I have to remove folders from the list if I deleted them in my filesystem?

No, the application will take care of that as soon as the file is gone.

Do I have control over the folder watching interval?

We didn’t include that feature yet, but if enough people raise the impression of necessity we will.
